Test of high - energy interaction models using the hadronic core of

چکیده
Using the large hadron calorimeter of the KASCADE experiment, hadronic cores of extensive air showers have been studied. The hadron lateral and energy distributions have been investigated in order to study the reliability of the shower simulation program CORSIKAwith respect to particle transport, decays, treatment of low-energy particles, etc. A good description of the data has been found at large distances from the shower core for several interaction models. The inner part of the hadron distribution, on the other hand, reveals pronounced differences among interaction models. Several hadronic observables are compared with CORSIKA simulations using the QGSJET, VENUS and SIBYLL models. QGSJET reproduces the hadronic distributions best. At the highest energy, in the 10 PeV region, however, none of these models can describe the experimental data satisfactorily. The expected number of hadrons in a shower is too large compared with the observed number, when the data are classified according to the muonic shower size.

The response of Geant4 hadronic models to the study of neutrons produced in proton irradiation to the light materials
Neutron is one of the products of the interaction of high energy protons with light nuclei. Using computational Monte Carlo codes, it is possible to calculate and predict the neutron spectrum, neutron flux, and doses by simulating the system. But the use of different hadronic models in this process can influence the results of these calculations. In this research, the response of the four hadro...

Scintillation detectors are widely used in the experimental setup for the detection of charged particles. These detectors are able to measure the energy and time-of-flight of the charged particles. Also, they can be used to identify the detected particle. The probability of hadronic interaction between the detected particle and the nuclei of the scintillator atoms is one important issue that m...

متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Test of hadronic interaction models with data from the Pierre Auger Observatory
The Pierre Auger Observatory allows the measurement of both longitudinal profiles and lateral particle distributions of high-energy showers. The former trace the overall shower development, mainly of the electromagnetic component close to the core where the latter reflect the particle densities in the tail of the shower far away from the core and are sensitive to both the muonic and electromagn...
متن کاملTest of Hadronic Interaction Models with the KASCADE Hadron Calorimeter
The interpretation of extensive air shower (EAS) measurements often requires the comparison with EAS simulations based on high-energy hadronic interaction models. These interaction models have to extrapolate into kinematical regions and energy ranges beyond the limit of present accelerators. Therefore, it is necessary to test whether these models are able to describe the EAS development in a co...
